NIEUWE
CHRISTEN-DEMOCRATEN (NCD)
The New Christian Democrats ('Nieuwe
Christen-Democraten' in
Dutch)
is a conservative Christian Democratic political party in Kronenburg.
The NCD became the
successor party of the Christian Reformed Union
('Christelijk Gereformeerde Unie', CGU) in 1991, after the
latter was completely redesigned as a result of a continuing
loss of seats in the
Noordkamer
since 1980, which caused the party to develop from sole
government party in 1981 into a small opposition party in
1989, which lost many members to other right wing parties,
such as the
LKP. The NCD
never managed to return to the success of the CGU, but was
part of a coalition government in 2006 and 2007, together
with the LKP and the
PvG.
Political
leaders of the NCD:
Aldo Facchinetti (1991 - 1993)
Frans Munster (1993 - 1999)
Jan-Harm Schutte (1999 - 2006)
Margriet de Wilde-Westers (since 2006)
