ELEMENTS AND MUNICIPALITIES

As of 1 January 2016, the Kingdom of Kronenburg will be devided in four so called Elements that can be considered as independent nations under a common crown. The four Elements are Kronenburg proper, the former municipality of West-Cod, and the former autonomous overseas provinces of the White Islands and the Kronenburg Virgin Islands. Kronenburg itself has sixteen municipalities (before 2016 there were only twelve), which include the overseas municipality of New-Stavoren. The division is the result of long negotiations between Kronenburg and its former colonies that have been on a path towards more autonomy and now near-independence since 1992.

West-Cod, the White Islands, and the Virgin Islands have their own respective governments. They can have their own constitutions, they have the right to engage relations with third parties and to conclude minor treaties. As of 2016, they are considered to be independent states according to international law and can therefore join international organisations in their own right without previous consent of the government in Alexanderstad. The king as head of state is represented in the autonomous provinces by the King's Governor ('Gouverneur-des-Konings' in Dutch); the head of government was called 'chairman of the council of ministers' before 2016; now they are known as 'prime ministers'. Lists of respective current and former King's Governors and chairmen of the councils of ministers can be found on the pages of the respective Elements.

The column 'English name' shows the current official names and formerly used names between brackets.
