| Welcome to the website of the Kingdom of Kronenburg! Here you can find everything about this very small country bordering the United States of America. Well, everything... I mean everything that I have made up so far, because Kronenburg doesn't exist for real (and thus poses no threat at all to the aforementioned United States or to any other country in the world - just in case you were panicking already). Kronenburg came into existence in 1997. At that time I was a young member of the Dutch Geofiction Association (GvG) and very interested in one of their projects: the League of Geofictional Nations (AGL). This is an international organization for countries on earth that don't exist for real in our reality. A condition for entering the AGL is that the country must look like a real country on earth, it must easily fit in the history of earth without changing history too much, and it mustn't be a country of the kind that draws attention to itself, so it can't be too large or too powerful. At the time my main creation was a kingdom (Letinia) south of French Polynesia, which had a peculiar history, that made it a less plausible country in order to become an AGL-member. So I created Kronenburg instead, and it joined the AGL in 1999. The Kingdom of Kronenburg is located east from Long Island and south from Rhode Island (both U.S.A.). Although the most part of the country is entirely fictional, I 'annexed' Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket for Kronenburg purposes, giving both islands a different history as part of the Dietzland municipality. A small island between Cape Cod and Boston ('West-Cod') is also part of Kronenburg, as are some small overseas territories in the Caribbean and off the Canadian coast. Kronenburg is called 'the Monaco of North America', because of the low tax rates and the many casinos, which attract many visitors from New England. The present head of state is king Alexander IV Louis (since 1991), who is a direct descendant of e.g. king William I of the Netherlands (he is called William IV in Kronenburg) and emperor Franz Joseph of Austria-Hungary. Kronenburg consists of a large number of islands, the largest of which are all inhabited. Kronenburg has over 9 million inhabitants. The official language is Dutch, but in public the local Kronenburg dialect is spoken and many favour making this the official language.
