GOVERNMENT

Officially IJzerland is a kingdom. The throne has however been vacant for more than 180 years, after the passing away of king Sebastias Ereikssuns. Instead of looking for a new monarch, the constitution was changed, enabling the country to function properly without a king on the throne, but the monarchy itself was not abolished, and in 7998 one of the sons of the Sevosetian king Uiskar I became king of IJzerland as king Wilhelmus IV. The executive powers of the IJzerlandic government are embodied by the Reikewaldufni, which is chaired by the Haubiþreiks, a function that is not entirely dissimilar to that of a prime minister on earth. The legislative powers are exercised by the Walidaize Hus, a parliament which consists of the 37 oldest persons in IJzerland. The first Haubiþreiks was Sigfriuþs Þeodereikssuns (7753 - 7829) and it were his Twelve Directives for the State Government that made the kingless era possible. These directives contain rules concerning the composition of the Walidaize Hus, the appointment of the Haubiþreiks and the other Reiks, and the election of a new king, when such is considered necessary.

THE REIKEWALDUFNI
The Reikewaldufni (litt. 'Power of Rulers') is the executive body of IJzerland. It is composed of the Haubiþreiks, the Galaubeinais Reiks and an indefinite number of other Reiks. This number is not regulated by law, which makes it possible for a Reikewaldufni to exist of only two people. The largest Reikewaldufni in the history of IJzerland existed for some days in the year 7863 (508 ABC), when Haubiþreiks Brutus Brutaussuns gathered 64 people around him as advisors in a difficult case concerning a mass insurrection in Miklabaurgs.

The term of a Haubiþreiks is also indefinite. The Haubiþreiks can be appointed for life by the Walidaize Hus, but in theory also for a couple of hours. The longest serving Haubiþreiks was Airna Maijeir (7865 - 7956), who was appointed for life in the year 7899 (544 ABC). Her predecessor Paitrus Kaifinissuns was appointed for life too, but he died nine days after he was installed. The present Haubiþreiks is Rauþhweita Wailgunþonsdauhtar, former Reiks of (among other) Foreign Affairs, Domestic Affairs as well as former Haubiþgaujo of Waddjelandis Soþgawi; she was appointed for three years and six months in 7997 (642 ABC).

The Reikewaldufni has one other permanent member: the Galaubeinais Reiks. This person - always a woman - is deputed by the Bope. Baism has therefore always a voice in the government's policies. The present Galaubeinais Reiks is Oddvør Havgrímsdóttir, who was appointed in 7999.

After the elections for the 24th Reikewaldufni (642 ABC), it is composed of the following Reiks:

List of Haubiþreiks
Although political parties in IJzerland do not exist, politicians often confess themselves to some sort of ideology, mostly baism or atheism. These are added between brackets in the list below (T.S. stands for Twtono Saiwala, a young ideology based on the greatness of the Twtonian heritage). In the list below it is only mentioned when a Haubiþreiks died in office, when he or she was not appointed for life. Of course Haubiþreiks who are appointed for life, always die in office.
