Parliamentary elections in Norway on 11 September ˇ Parliamentary elections in Germany on 24 September ˇ Parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic on 20 and 21 October

European Heads of Government
1
. Most European countries have split the offices of head of state and head of government; only in (Southern) Cyprus and Switzerland the two functions are combined in one person.
2. Most countries call their heads of government prime minister. There are some however that call them simply head of government or chief minister or something alike. Germany and Austria have chancellors.
3. At this moment Germany, Norway, Poland, and the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Serbia, as well as the Finnish autonomous province of the Ĺland Islands, have women leading their governments.

About the alphabetical order
The countries on these pages are listed in alphabetical order by their original short names. This means that e.g. Albania can be found under S, because the country is called Shqipëri in Albanian. Additionally there are some original names that are written in other than the western alphabets, and some use the western alphabet with additional signs. I have put all those extra signes in the western alphabet according to their general transcriptions. So the Scandinavian ĺ equals a, Czech č equals c, Abkhazian ҧ equals p, etc. Some letters however equal more than one western signs: Cyrillic х equals kh, so South Ossetia (called Хуссар Ирыстон or Khussar Iryston in Ossetian) is listed before Kibris (Turkish Cyprus), which starts with ki-. Armenia and Georgia can be found under Hayastan resp. Sakartvelo, written in their respective unique alphabets.
