There are five types of
roads in Cartyas:
2) Primary roads
3) Secundary roads
4) Tertiary roads
According to the Cartian traffic code, a V́ėde generally
includes limited-access roads of at least four lanes with or without
separation of opposing traffic flow. It may be accessed by motorised
vehicles only and there are no intersecting cross-streets. Although
V́ėdexe can be motorways, freeways and express ways, the word
V́ėde is normally translated as 'motorway'.
V́ėdexe are generally
indicated with the letter V followed by the road number in a
white font on a green background. As of January 2016, there are 7
motorways. Apart from those, there are some ringways around towns
that are also motorways but because they service one town only they
aren't officially designated as such.
The V1 is to become the largest motorway of Cartyas,
stretching from Oca in the southwest to the border with Schellingen
in the northeast, effectively crossing the entire country. Only
parts of the road exist so far, mostly in the western part of
Cartyas, with a large part in the east connecting Primary Road 33
with Vöserleck (Schellingen) through Pėviśozi and İźulq́ planned
to be finished in 2017.
The westernmost parts of
the V1 were constructed in the '60s and '70s. Oca-Hov́an was started
in 1959 and finished in 1973, whereas Hov́an-Aq́ılexic was
constructed between 1977 and 1983. The next part from Aq́ılexic to
Cuǵiśılek was started in 2015 and should be finished in 2019.
The V1a is a bypass connecting V1 and V2 south of Hov́an. It
was built between 1984 and 1986.
The V2 currently consists of the road between Hov́an and
Xėlurq́ȧ. There are plans to extend it from Hov́an to the
northwest where it will be connected to the Tholenian town of
Artois, but these plans are still subject of discussion.
The V3 connects Moresnafjyl (Schellingen) with
Braunschweig (Tholenia) through Cartian territory. In Cartyas it
follows a north-south direction passing İźulq́ and Ećek. The road
was constructed twice: before the second world war, a large part of
it was finished by the Rudenzian fascist government, to which the
area belonged in that time. When it was conquered by Cartyas, the
Cartian military destroyed most of the existing infrastructure in
order to prevent an easy reconquest of the area. Between 1980 and
1986 the motorway was rebuilt along the same route as its
The V4 is a short motorway connecting Hov́an with the
Carthamian border at Anixo, after which it continues as a motorway
to Fremont. It was constructed between 1973 and 1976.
The "Nagaskian Motorway" V5 is an old project of which
only a small part has been finished. The first connects the town of
Nıgasćılek with the border of Schellingen, where it continues to
Ravaborg; this part was created between 1997 and 1999. The second is
only a short extension of the first: started in 2010 and opened in
2015 it connects Nıgasćılek with Vȧrśalek.
The question is how the
V5 will continue, as the plans have been changed a lot. The most
recent plans foresee extension of the motorway to Egixulś and the
Dumerian border, after which it can continue to Neapolis, but
opponents of this plan prefer a connection to Huśusćozi and
beyond, with a connection to the Primary Road 28 in order to make
the Nagaskian area better reachable from the rest of Cartyas.
As is the case with the V3, the "North-South Motorway" V6
is partly based on an old motorway construction of which started
before the second world war. In this case however only the track
between Cu̇vit and Vȧlźȧrq́ is re-used. The construction of the
V6 started between 1993 and 1995 with the Ring of the town Xėzė.
From 1998 to 2002 the part between Uldė and the border with
Tholenia was added, and between 2007 and 2014, the 'gap' between
Uldė and Xėzė was filled. In 2016, construction of the next stage
(Xėzė-Źav́ėcizin) will begin.
Recent developments in
discussions between Cartyas and its northern and southern neighbours
Tholenia and Dumeria resulted in the current plan to extend the V6
not only to the V1 connection at Asćėv́un, but to the Dumerian
town Ecnomus, essentially creating a 'vertical' motorway from
Tholenia to Dumeria through Cartyas. This huge project, which will
include what is to become the highest bridge in Cartyas above
Asćėv́un, will cost a lot of money and the government is currently
searching for investors and other financial sources to make it
The most recent addition to the list of Cartian motorways, the
V7 started its existence as the Ring of the town of Lu̇źo,
constructed between 2004 and 2007. Between 2009 and 2016 it was
extended to Źarq́ix́al, with the official opening scheduled in
